Author Guidelines

Ethical Guidelines

Academic Integrity: Authors must adhere to high standards of intellectual property and plagiarism policies. Each author assumes full responsibility for the content of their submission.

Authorship and Acknowledgements: NorSoTL follows the Vancouver convention guidelines for determining authorship. Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot be listed as a (co-)author. Contributors to the research or manuscript preparation who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section.

Disclosure of Conflict of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest related to the publication of their work. If no conflicts exist, this should be explicitly stated in the disclosure statement.

Ethical Considerations in SoTL: SoTL inquiry often involves a dual role as both instructor and researcher, raising ethical considerations regarding power dynamics and participant protection. Authors should critically reflect on these issues and ensure alignment with the ethical guidelines set by national research ethics committees. Ethical considerations should be addressed throughout the article. For further details, refer to the guidelines of the Norwegian Research Ethics Committees.

Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI): Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their submissions. If generative AI is used in the research or manuscript preparation process, its role must be clearly described in the disclosure section following the manuscript’s conclusion. NorSoTL adheres to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines on the use and reporting of AI in research.

Editorial Procedure: Submissions undergo an initial editorial review within approximately 14 days. Promising manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review, though authors may request an open peer-review process. Review criteria include originality, theoretical anchoring, field positioning, research methodology, reflection on results, student perspective visibility, language, formalities, and overall assessment. Authors receive a decision (acceptance, minor revisions, resubmission with substantial revisions, or rejection) along with detailed feedback. Accepted articles undergo proofreading before final publication.
