About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Early Modern Culture Online journal centers on presenting new research within the field of literature, together with art history, philosophy, history, drama, music and architecture from the Early Modern period. Interdisciplinarity is one of our goals and submitted articles may address one or more of these fields.

EMCO also publishes survey articles as well as book reviews within the mentioned fields. We will also consider think-pieces,

Peer Review Process

Articles in EMCO will be peer reviewed by a double blind process.

Each submitted manuscript is evaluated on the following basis:

  • the originality of its contribution to the field of Early Modern literature and culture;
  • the soundness of its theory and methodology;
  • the coherence of its analysis;
  • its ability to communicate to readers (grammar and style).

Normal turn-around time for evaluation of manuscripts is three to five months from the date of receipt.

Survey articles and book reviews are not normally subject to double-blind peer reviews.

Publication Frequency

From 2018, EMCO will publish articles when they are ready to be published, individually or in clusters. Each year is an "issue" and each article will be equipped with an issue and volume number, as well as a unique DOI. This means that some "volumes" will contain just one article, while others may contain multiple articles, book reviews and more.
